Stage Schedule

Timing is provided for guest planning but are only estimates.

  • MC’s and the Davis Arab Community Diwan will welcome attendees to “our house!”

  • Davis Arab community members and UC Davis Arabic Language Program students will share poetry and folk stories.

  • Ihab Hamdi will perform well known Arabic songs on the oud.

  • Bring your children to learn and sing two songs in Arabic and listen to stories in English related to Arab culture.

  • Muhaned Aljabiry will share the history of Arabic calligraphy, the traditional tools used in the art form, and the important role calligraphy holds in Arab culture.

    He will also be writing names in Arabic throughout the day at the activity table.

  • Come out to learn traditional dabke dance moves.

  • Qallayet Bandourah (Fried Tomatoes): A Gaza Boy's Story

    Beyond the recipe, experience with Elias his boyhood as he shares his cooking techniques and tells his tale with this popular Gaza dish and all that shaped his memories in this indomitable city.

  • Explore cultural items from across the Arab world, shared from the homes of community members. Beitna beitkum, our house is your house.

  • Discover the beauty of Arabic calligraphy. Muhaned Aljabiry will write your name in Arabic for you to take home as a keepsake.

  • Experience traditional Palestinian cross-stitch embroidery, known as tatreez. Learn about its history and cultural significance and try the stitch yourself.

  • Henna is a traditional art form widely used across many cultures and regions, including countries in Southwest Asia and North Africa. You can get your henna done from our talented artists.

  • The Palestine Bed is part of the Fresh Focus program at UC Davis' Student Farm, dedicated to growing and saving indigenous heirloom seed varieties through the Palestine Heirloom Seed Library. This initiative helps preserve and educate about Palestinian culture and the deep historical significance of these seeds passed down for centuries..

  • Family tree worksheets, for adults & children, will be available for you to use and take home to write out your family trees and help preserve your family stories.

  • You will be able to place a pin on the map to show where you are from.

  • Pull out your phones and take a photo in front of the themed backdrop.

  • Bring your children to enjoy crafts and activities to engage with Arabic language and cultures of the Arab world.

  • Have fun joining with others playing cards and backgammon games found in the Arab world.

  • In addition to street parking, the Davis Senior Center has parking on the side and in the back of the building.

  • Yes! Our food vendors will be selling savory and sweet treats and drinks.

  • We are welcoming you to “our house” for a free afternoon, however we do ask that you RSVP. We welcome donations through our registration link or on our donation page to cover costs and support Diwan programming.

  • Beitna is a multi-generational event welcoming children with programing including a sing-along and story time from the stage, arts and crafts in the activities area and displays that are eye-catching and educational for all.
