Our mission

is to gather and empower members of the Arab community in the City of Davis, Yolo County, and the region. We seek to honor, preserve, support and disseminate awareness and education about our Arab cultural heritage and histories.

Our Story

What started with a potluck became a community home.

The Davis Arab Community Diwan was incorporated as a California nonprofit organization in February 2025. Diwan grew out of an on-and-off, potluck-style gathering of Arab families and friends in Davis, California that began in the late 1990s. Over time, schedules changed, people traveled or moved, and the gatherings paused, but the need for community remained. In 2023, that tradition was firmly re-established, bringing together new and longtime community members across generations.

Today, Diwan continues our traditional potlucks while also offering year-round opportunities to connect. Through gatherings, events, educational programming, and community partnerships, we foster belonging, connection, and greater understanding of the diverse cultures and identities of the Arab world.

Our board

The Davis Arab Community Diwan board is made up of volunteers committed to supporting the organization’s mission, building community, supporting Arab cultural and educational programming, and helping strengthen connections within the Arab community and the broader Davis area.
